The league sets off 11th September

The Finnish National Hockey League's season 2007/2008 starts 11th September with one game, HIFK against HPK. Six more games will follow on 13th September, and the final season opening games will be on 14th September.

The last round of the regular season will be played on Tuesday 4th March. The play-offs will begin three days later. The first round of the play-offs will be played with best out of three- system. The quarter-, semi- and finals are played with best out of seven; it takes four wins to come first in the game series.

The champion will be known the latest on Tuesday 15th April when the probable 7th final game is played.

Well-known players returning to the Finnish National Hockey League

Few Finnish National Hockey League clubs have announced signing contracts with well-known Finnish players.

Jokerit has made a one year deal with the top goalie Jussi Markkanen . The past two years Markkanen played in NHL team Edmonton Oilers. The last season when Markkanen played in the Finnish National Hockey League was 2000/2001 with Tappara. Jokerit has also signed a deal with center Tommi Santala , who played last season in NHL with Vancouver Canucks. In Finland, Santala has played with Jokerit and HPK.

JYP and center Jarkko Immonen have signed three (1+1+1) year-contract. Immonen has played last two seasons in NHL and AHL with New York Rangers organisation. Before that he has played with JYP and Ässät in Finnish Hockey League.

HIFK and defender Hannu Pikkarainen have signed a two-year-contract. Pikkarainen played last season in North America in the AHL. Before leaving Finland, he played four seasons for HIFK.

Defender Mikko Lehtonen has made a deal with Kärpät for season 2007/2008. Last season he played in NHL for Nashville Predators and for two AHL teams. Previously he played for Kärpät winning the Finnish championship in springs 2004 and 2005.
